The El Segundo 12U All-Stars are on a winning streak – tomorrow, they play for the District 36 Championship at Brett Field at noon and they need all the support they can get.
The El Segundo 12U All-Stars faced off against Luanda Bay last Friday, June 29th with the winner advancing to Championship game on Saturday, July 7th. Lunada Bay started the game strong scoring three runs in the first inning – The El Segundo 12U All-Stars maintained composure and came back strong – Lucas Bonham hit A 2-run home run in their first at-bat to cut the lead to one run.
Starting pitcher James Baldino and relief pitcher Mateo Heredia combined to only allow four runs. Great defense and timely hitting by El Segundo’s offense provided five runs each in the 4th & 5th innings to pull ahead with a comfortable lead.
The offense was lead by Lucas Bonham who went 4-for-4 with two home runs & four RBI’s, Brett Abitante 3-for-4 with three runs & Dylan Alcala 2-for-3 with two runs.
El Segundo now meets up with Redondo Beach this Saturday, July 7th in a high noon showdown. Redondo Beach has been playing all week through the losers bracket to meet up in the Championship game. Now El Segundo must win one game in the next two scheduled games to take home the District Championship against a determined Redondo Beach team.
The winner of the District championship will move on to the Section 4 Championship tournament scheduled in Redondo Beach against Districts 25, 27 & 37 with the winner advancing to the Southern California championships.
