Intro
Heading to the beach? Don’t forget to try out El Segundo’s Summer Beach Shuttle! Our Rec and Parks Department works incredibly hard. Every day, they make our city more beautiful, maintain our parks, and add programs and services to enrich our live. One of the perks of living here is a shuttle to local beaches each summer, free to El Segundo residents with a 2018 Rec ID card and only $1 each way without one.
How it began
In 1980, Proposition “A” was passed by voters of LA County. This proposition raised sales tax by ½ percent to fund transit projects in the County. Part of this tax is returned to all LA County to meet local transit needs. A few years ago, El Segundo decided to use our local return funds to build a responsive Dial-A-Ride service and an annual Beach Shuttle each summer.
How the shuttle helps El Segundo
These programs are built to help reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and provide safe, low-cost local transportation. Both programs are extra helpful to those who don’t have transportation of their own, including teens and senior citizens.
The shuttle schedule varies by season. This year’s beach shuttle runs from June 16th- August 25th from 11:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday-Saturday.
Drop off locations include Grand Beach and El Porto. An early drop-off for teens in the Junior Lifeguards program is available too!
The Beach Shuttle flyer below provides details on in-town stops, a complete schedule, and contact info for questions. For afternoon beach trips, consider trying the Beach Shuttle to help our city combat summer traffic!
