A Summer Tradition for El Segundo Families
Though the South Bay has no shortage of family-friendly summertime activities, there’s one tradition in particular that has stood the test of time nationwide: Camping. Camping offers a classic experience for all ages.
It’s an inexpensive way to relax, unplug, and get outside with loved ones…with one big caveat. Planning a camping trip is a big endeavor. After packing up a tent, sleeping bags, lanterns, sports chairs, a cooler, and changes of clothes, you might be too tired to go at all.
This is especially true with kids. Now don’t get me wrong, camping with little ones is an amazing way to foster a love of nature and spend quality time together. It does, however, require a ton of work before the fun starts. If you’re not up for the challenge this season, don’t sweat it! El Segundo’s Family Campout is the ideal alternative to test out your family’s camping chops, hassle-free.
What to expect at this year’s campout
This year from August 11th -12th, families are invited to set up tents and enjoy a community campout under the stars. The event is graciously hosted by El Segundo Recreation and Parks Department at Stevenson Field and costs $12 per person. The wristband charge includes dinner on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday, family activities, s’mores around the campfire, and an evening movie showing. This year’s movie will be Minions followed by Despicable Me. Come at 4 pm to set up your tent and enjoy the festivities!
Important notes
This event is pre-sale only, so visit George E. Gordon Clubhouse to purchase wristbands by August 9th. Wristbands are required at the gate. Alcohol, glass containers, and pets are not permitted. Dinner will include classic burgers and hotdogs with healthier turkey-based and vegetarian options available. The field is located at 401 Sheldon Street on the west side of Recreation Park.
