Update 7/17/18 9:41 pm from David Abitante:
Unbelievable! The boys forced a deciding game!! This is what it’s about people! Riviera jumped up 5-0 in the first inning and our boys fought thru it and came back with a huge grand slam! What a game! Sectionals final game tomorrow. Exciting stuff. Go Gundo!
How They Got Here
The 12u All-Stars Began Sectionals this weekend by defeating District 25 Champion West LA Little League 11-2, It was a complete team win lead offensively by Lucas Bonham, Dylan Immel, James Baldino and Cruz Ochoa. The pitching staff held West LA to 2 runs over 6 innings of work and was lead Dylan Garcia and followed up relievers Dylan Alcala & Mateo Heredia.
Sunday’s game pitted the El Segundo vs Riviera Little League and it did not go well for the boys of El Segundo as they played an uncharacteristic game of errors and untimely hitting leading to a 10-6 loss, but as Coach Mike said after the game they are 12 yr. old kids and games like this will happen, but they get to bounce back and play West LA again on Monday, July 16th for a chance to punch their ticket to the Championship Game and a rematch with Riviera Little League.
El Segundo wasted no time in showing that their loss against Riviera would not have any lasting effects on their play. The two teams traded runs in the first inning leading to a 3-2 score by West LA, but that lead would not last long as El Segundo would add 5 runs in the 2ND inning and they knock blow came in the top of the 3RD when El Segundo threw up 12 unanswered runs with 10 hits, 3 walks and Sac Fly, The Big spark for the boys confidence came in 1st inning when West LA intentionally walked the hot-hitting Bonham to get to clean up hitter Dominik Kopecky and promptly did his job by lining a Double to Left center field and the hitting barrage was on, as El Segundo totaled 16 hits! Dylan Immel and Holden Coulter held West LA in check on the mound.
Thus Setting up a rematch with Riviera in the Section 4 Championship tonight at Perry Park at 6:30 pm. El Segundo beat Riviera today and forced a final and deciding game tomorrow to Claim the Title.
