More than 100 El Segundo residents, City employees, and onlookers packed the City Council Chambers last night for the swearing-in of two new Councilmembers.
The first item tasked to the new Council was the nomination and voting of El Segundo Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem. Drew Boyles (former Mayor Pro Tem) was nominated for the El Segundo Mayor position by Carol Pirsztuk – no other nominations were made and our new council voted 4/1 in favor of Mr. Boyles, with Councilmember Brann as the only “no” vote.
Newly chosen Mayor Boyles took control of the meeting and opened the floor to nominations for Mayor Pro Tem. Scot Nicol (one of the two new Councilmembers) made a nomination, stating “I’d like to nominate Carol Pirsztuk.”
With no other nominations received, Mayor Boyles asked for a motion and a second, Councilmember Pirsztuk was voted in as Mayor Pro Tem with a 4/1 vote of approval with Councilmember Bran again being the only “no” vote.
In a tight race for the two City Council spots, Chris Pimentel took in the most votes followed by Scot Nicol – last night both were sworn in as new City Councilmembers.
The meeting ended with a buzz of excitement in the room for our newly formed El Segundo City Council.
