On November 6, 2018, the voters of El Segundo have a decision to make – vote “yes” or “no” on the local ballot measure Measure ES?
Both commercial and residential property owners will ultimately fund Measure ES and is a result of two years of extensive work to develop a detailed plan to address El Segundo Unified’s most critical facility needs. It will generate funds for El Segundo public schools only and the proceeds from ES must be spent according to a detailed plan. Measure ES is subject to rigorous independent audits and focuses on three core areas.
- Repair our Public Schools
- Provide Great Classrooms
- Ensure School Safety
We trust our educators to teach and care for our children – we should trust them when they tell us this is what they need to continue providing an outstanding education for our children.
The success of Measure ES will also help to ensure ESUSD remains one of the top school districts in the region with state of the art innovations that encourage student learning and higher achievement.
Before you make a decision (assuming you haven’t already mailed in), please read the following:
Yes, Measure ES will increase our tax rate, however, this is what our educators are asking from us to continue quality education in El Segundo. I stand behind our educators and vote “yes” on Measure ES.

The Long-Range Facilities Master Plan (LFRMP) established critical needs to be met over a ten (10) year period, which includes:
- Improve student safety and campus security.
- Flexible, multi-use classrooms to support hands-on science instruction and learning-by-doing.
- repair and replace aging school facilities, deteriorating roofs, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Facilities and technology to support high-quality instruction in core subjects, math, science, engineering, technology, the arts, and career technical education.
If approved by 55% + 1 of the voters, Measure ES would provide up to $92 Million to fund the repair and/or replacement of science labs, libraries, career training facilities and upgrade instructional technology to support student achievement. Additionally, it will fund upgrades and repairs to classrooms, facilities, sites/equipment, and repair deteriorating roofs, plumbing and electrical systems. The upgrade of classrooms is necessary to support high-quality math, science, performing arts, and engineering programs.
The success of Measure ES will also help to ensure ESUSD remains one of the top school districts in the region with state of the art innovations that encourage student learning and higher achievement.
All money generated from the bond measure will be spent on repairs, upgrades, and improving classroom technology infrastructure. According to the law, money garnered from this measure will not be used to fund employee salaries or benefits, including teacher or administrator pensions.
Along with the bond funding, the District is required to follow accountability measures, and if Measure ES is approved, will establish an Independent Citizen’s Oversight Committee that will inform the public concerning the District’s expenditure of revenues received from the sale of bonds authorized by voters.
