Few things are as important in a community as our schools. The experiences provided by a quality education set the foundation for success in college and beyond. In the best of worlds, the lessons taught at school go beyond academics. That’s exactly what Center Street School’s PTA, along with the generous support of Chevron, is working hard to accomplish at the Chevron Work Day at CSS PTA’s Garden on Saturday, November 10, 2018.
The school’s learning garden provides a unique and hands-on learning experience. Learning about the process of growing our food teaches our kids several life lessons, including:
- Tasting and learning about healthy food choices
- Understanding the basics of how to grow their own food
- Learning to work as a team and support their community
- Developing perspective and appreciation of the hardworking people who grow our food
- Building confidence in their ability to make a difference!
Center Street School’s garden helps kids to grow by acquiring not just knowledge, but character. The effort and dedication of the CSS PTA is a perfect example of the Good in Gundo.
Teaching kids what it means to contribute to a community is a group effort, as is the learning garden. To prepare the garden for planting in January, new composite raised planter beds need to be installed. To make it happen, the PTA is inviting the community to come out for a work day in the garden.
Get Your Hands Dirty While Supporting a Great Cause!
To make the renovated garden possible, Chevron is donating funds and assistance. The community is invited to join in the efforts and help show our kids what El Segundo is all about. If you’d like to do your part, come on out for the Chevron / Center Street School PTA Cougar Garden Work Day. The more people who come out to help the better!
