eGundo.com’s mission is to explore the good in Gundo and a big part of the good in Gundo is the people that live here and the businesses located here. We recently had the opportunity to talk with Nick Martini from Stept Studios, a creative agency in El Segundo, to learn more about who they are and why they’re a shining example of the good in Gundo.
1. What is the Stept Studios Story?
Stept Studios was technically founded in 2001 when my brother and I (Alex & Nick Martini), shot our first film when we were 12 and 13 respectively. Throughout high school and college, we produced feature length ski films around the globe. Our interest in ski films slowly faded and I migrated to Los Angeles to get our start in the commercial film world. Today, we create commercial spots and short films for the world’s largest athletic, outdoor, and automotive brands.
2. What made you choose El Segundo as a location for an office?
Our business is based in Jackson Hole, WY, but when I moved to California to focus on commercials I somehow stumbled upon El Segundo. At the time I didn’t know anything about the town, but over the past two years, I have fallen in love with the area. We are close to the beach and the airport, and the town is quiet, clean, and has a great community.
3. Has your office location in El Segundo impacted your business in a positive way?
We travel almost every week for work and being next to LAX is essential for our team. It is also great to be near the ocean. We are surrounded by tons or production teams and agencies which has made for some great local collaborations.
4. Can you share a few projects you’ve worked on?
We recently produced a commercial for Gatorade with Peyton Manning for the ESPY’s. We also wrote and produced a string of broadcasts spots for Oakley’s “Can’t Stop” campaign.
5. What does a typical day look like for the Stept Studios team?
Most of the team hits Kreation for breakfast then we get going at the studio around 8:30. We do a lot of post-production so it is nose to the grindstone until around 7:00 pm. After that it’s a perfect time for a quick surf at El Porto before hitting The Station!
6. What does Stept Studios look like in 5 years?
We are hoping to work on larger budget commercials and we have a few feature documentaries in the works. We are currently starting a rental house, and also starting to offer creative services. We have been growing quickly and are excited about the future!
7. Where can people see some examples of your work?
We are interested in all types of production. You can check out our work and contact info at www.steptstudios.com!
