eGundo.com’s mission is to explore the good in Gundo and a big part of the good in Gundo is the people that live here. We recently had the opportunity to talk with Marcy Dugan to learn more about who she is and why she’s a shining example of the good in Gundo.
1. Can you give us an overview of your journey in life?
I met my husband right here in El Segundo on George Brett field while playing co-ed softball against each other. I worked for Northrop and him with Chevron. After spending two years in Northern California Mike was transferred back to El Segundo and we have been here ever since.
2. Can you give us a brief overview of your work history?
I started working for Recreation & Parks after having my children and began photographing plays and events for the Recreation Brochure. Soon after that, I started working for the El Segundo Herald photographing city events.
In 1994 Marcy Dugan Photography was established and I began photographing all the youth sports leagues and in 2001 began photographing ESHS senior portraits and the sports for the yearbook.
3. Can you give us some insight into how you became the go-to photographer for the school district?
I was very involved with the Chamber of Commerce, ES Herald, and youth sports. The school called me and asked if I would be interested in photographing the high school seniors. I think that my personal relationship/customer service with the school district is what got me the job.
4. Can you share some stories about working with local families here in El Segundo?
I have worked with many of the families of El Segundo and the surrounding communities. I have photographed weddings, babies, schools, graduations, and many special occasions. It is amazing how many times I will go somewhere with a friend and someone will come up to say hi. My photographer friends always make comments on how I know so many people in my community.
5. Can you share something about you that people might not know?
I am not from El Segundo, I grew up in Torrance where my father still lives in the same house I was born in.
6. What does El Segundo look like 20 years from now?
With technology changing the face of everything its hard to say. We might even be living like the Jetsons.
Quick Q&A With Marcy Dugan

I love the small town feel and how beautiful our High School, Main Street and parks are.
2. What’s your favorite food in Gundo?
We don’t go out to eat often but we have always enjoyed having breakfast on Sunday mornings after church at Fantastic Café. When we do go out we really try to support all the restaurants in El Segundo.
3. What’s your favorite event in Gundo?
Its so hard to say which is my favorite. I photograph most of the bigger events for the newspaper and have enjoyed many of them. Though I have to say the celebration of our centennial with the firework extravaganza was absolutely fantastic!
4. Can you share an example of the “Good” in Gundo?
There are so many people/organizations that do good in El Segundo. From the volunteers that work Meals on Wheels, C.A.S.E with Fr. Alexi, the programs at the Joslyn Center helping our seniors, Rotary, Kiwanis, etc…
