El Segundo Little League 10U All-Stars Win District

A strong showing at the plate proved too much for the Palos Verdes defense as the El Segundo All-Stars made a run in the bottom of the 4th inning. The five-run inning was led by Lincoln Quaintence, Jake Danford and Jaiden Rico all putting up single line outs to push in RBI’s. Led by Joaquin Wagner-Bagues 3 for 4 at the plate, drove in runs on a single in the first, a double in the fourth and single in the fifth with a total 4 RBI’s, Andre Sugden went 3 for 3 and 1 RBI, Ryan Wiacek went 2 for 2 with 1 RBI and Chase Mattoon went 2 for 2 with 1 RBI.

Understandably, Logan Brooks batting presence in the last three games was intentionally walked by Palos Verdes, setting up Joaquin Wagner-Bagues to break the game open in the fourth. The El Segundo All-Stars put up 16 hits during the game. Designated Hitter Giovani Blanco sealed the game for the 9-10’s with a double in the 5th pushing in two runs capping the game at 13. Logan Brooks and Jaime Owens both went 1-1.

Chase Mattoon toed the rubber for the All-Stars allowing four hits and only one run in three innings on the mound. Cole Knupfer filled in the pitching line up relieving in the fourth setting up Logan Brooks to finish. Brooks capped the game in the top of the 5th by striking two out to end the contest. The defense recorded no errors. Led by Lincoln Quaintence making plays from 3rd and catcher and a solid showing from outfielders Jaime Owens, Andre Sugden, Ryan Wiacek and Spencer Osbourne all kept the Palos Verdes runners limited to single station moves to keep runs limited.

In all the defense limited Palos Verdes to 6 runs on 8 hits and played great team ball to keep runners on base at the end of innings, minimizing scoring opportunities. The 9-10 All-Stars will be heading to Sectional play against District 25 this upcoming Saturday, July 14. Game time at 1:15 pm at Torrance Little League.
