Of late, it’s an unfortunate reality that our country’s political scene has been fraught with discord and controversy. This year, coming together to share a peaceful and community-oriented Independence Day is more important than ever. Though we have many differences, we have far more in common than meets the eye. Across even the greatest of political divides, we all wish for peace. We love our families. We want safe neighborhoods for our children, opportunities for growth and prosperity, and a sense of connection. The means of achieving such goals is bitterly debated, but at the center of the conflict remains a nation of strong, diverse, amazing individuals.

America is a relatively young country, and most of us can look back into our family histories long enough to recall how we came to be Americans. Each story has something in common- the dream of freedom, justice, and endless possibility. These stories of ourselves, our neighbors, and our fellow Americans are what we come together to celebrate. Not the dark aspects of our nation’s history or the conflict in Congress, but the strength and beauty of our countrymen.

In El Segundo, we have much to celebrate- a welcoming community, a safe city, good schools, and a coastline to die for. This Fourth of July, you can enjoy all of these wonderful aspects of the South Bay at the following local events.
