El Segundo Babe Ruth 13U All-Stars squared off against Tournament favorite Hawaii on 7/24/19 in a winners bracket game defeating Hawaii 6-5 in a thriller all kids dream of.

El Segundo heads to the Championship game tomorrow against the winner of Hawaii vs Carbon tonight (Hawaii leads 21-12, top of 7th at the time of this post).

Coming off a win 6-5 against Hawaii (7/24), El Segundo heads to the Championship game unbeaten, affording them a two-game shot at winning the PSW Regional Championship and a trip to the Babe Ruth World Series. If they win, they’re the champions and head to the Babe Ruth World Series. If they lose, they’ll get a 2nd shot 1/2 hour after the first game with the winner dubbed Champion & off to the World Series!

El Segundo vs. Hawaii – 7/24/19

After trading runs in the first Inning the game went remained scoreless until the top of the 4th inning with two outs El Segundo scored two runs by a single by Max Martinez and an error to make the score 3-1.

James Baldino started for el Segundo and he gave way to Max Martinez in the second inning, El Segundo and Hawaii remained 3-1 until the 5th inning when Hawaii scored two unearned runs making the score 3-3.

In the top of the 6th inning El Segundo Broke the tie 4-3 with a bases ground out by Max Martinez, but on the play Martinez was collided with the 1st baseman and landed awkwardly on his left wrist. Dylan Immel then singled to knock in another run and the final run scored on an error on the same play.

Martinez returned to the mound to start the 6th inning but after a walk to the first batter he could no longer continue due to the left Injury. Enter Dominick Kopecky in relief who promptly gets a fly ball out and then Hawaii had a double to score a run, Dylan Alcala then relieves Kopecky and faces the first batter and he knocks a run in due to an error. Alcala then induces a fly ball out and then Lucas Bonham cuts down a would be base stealer for the 3rd out of the inning.

El Segundo goes quietly in the top of the 7th inning setting up the dramatic finish all kids dream about. In 6-5 ball game El Segundo needed 3 more outs to advance to the Regional championship.

All the El Segundo fans in attendance and all the fans watching the live stream and game changer app were on pins and needles as the El Segundo defense readied to defend their lead.

Dylan wasted no time in setting up the dramatics as he hit the first batter and put the tying run on first and a sacrifice bunt put the tying run on 2nd base with one out. Alcala continued to Pound the strike zone with an array of pitches, the next bat walked to put two runners on.

Alcala was now facing the tying and winning runs on base, he was calm and collect as he approached the next batter who promptly sent a deep fly ball to center field as everyone gasped Cruz Ochoa had a beat on it and flagged it down for the 2nd out of the inning.

Now the scene is set as El Segundo is one out away from punching their ticket to the championship game. As the drama wasn’t enough, Alcala worked the corners to a full-count with the tying and winning runs now on 2nd and 3rd base. He then took the sign from his catcher Lucas. After he takes deep breath, he wound up and threw a full-count change-up to strike out the hitter and send El Segundo to the championship game and a celebratory ride back to the hotel in their Rally RV and pizza party celebration!!!
