Start your engines for Main Street’s Annual Car Show

eGundo.com is on a mission to explore all the good in Gundo and the El Segundo Car Show is a shining example.

We met with El Segundo Police Training Officer Jeff Darringer at the Automobile Driving Museum to learn more about the El Segundo Car Show – the history, the people involved, and future plans.

This Saturday, August 18th, vintage cars will be taking over Main Street. The 21st Annual El Segundo Car Show will combine gorgeous cars and live music.

Its front and center location provides car connoisseurs with easy access to Downtown El Segundo’s many restaurants, breweries, and shops. Expect to see all kinds of unique and eye-catching vehicles, including classic cars, hot rods, sports cars, trucks, motorcycles and more.

The story behind the El Segundo Car Show

The car show began in 1998 by El Segundo Police Officer Bill Sinko. The avid car enthusiast pioneered an event that included around 150-200 cars. This year, the car show will include over 300! People come from all over Southern California to enter their cars. Some autos hail from as far as Nevada and Arizona.

The show is the oldest Police Officer Association fundraiser. When times were tough, the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce stepped up to make sure the event continued. Other sponsors include the Automobile Driving Museum, Continental Development Corporation, El Segundo Brewing Company, R6 Distillery, Los Angeles World Airports, Mattel, Industrial Lock and Security, and Dr. Smile.

Car show attendance has grown each year. This year’s event is expected to have a turnout of around 5,000- 7,000 people. Each year brings an opportunity for new car entries to win, with each car expertly judged by members of the El Segundo Automobile Museum. The event is a big undertaking, requiring about 6 months of careful planning.

Considering entering your car?

Pre-registration is $30 and closes at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 17th. Day-of registration is available at the show for $35. The show will run from 10:00 am to 3:00 PM. This year’s event will include a beer tent set up on Holly Ave and Main Street, plus food, friendly faces, and (of course) streets lined with stunning cars! See the flyer below for details.

Many thanks to Officer Jeff Derringer for taking the time to meet with us to talk about the 21st El Segundo Car Show and thank you to the Automobile Driving Museum for allowing us to use their space.
